HILL COMPLETES POLE POSITION CLEAN SWEEP

Canberra racer Cameron Hill has joined a select club of drivers to claim pole position for every single round of an Australian motorsport series, completing his perfect 2017 scorecard with a blistering performance in qualifying for the fifth and final round of the Toyota 86 Racing Series at the Coates Hire Newcastle 500 today.

After coming to grips with the brand-new street circuit in this morning’s practice session, Hill blitzed the field in his usedtrucks.sydney/National Capital Toyota/Anytime Fitness 86, achieving a lap time more than 0.6s faster than his nearest rival.

“Today’s result is a credit to my team and all their hard work throughout the year,” Hill said.

“Pole position is always important but at this street circuit, it looks like overtaking is going to be particularly difficult, so it’s a relief to be starting up the front.”

Hill said some pre-event research also assisted his performance.

“I did some simulator work during the week, and a track walk yesterday where I identified some key areas of the circuit,” he said.

“In practice, I worked out the racing lines and braking zones, and in qualifying I took what I learned from practice, and pushed closer to the limit.”

Race 1 for the Toyota 86 Racing Series will take place at 9:55am tomorrow with Race 2 at 2:00pm.
