Gaining knowledge of the Hidden Valley circuit was the primary objective for Cameron Hill’s Southern Star Truck Centre/Anytime Fitness/Baxx Australia/Fizzical team team in today’s two Porsche Wilson Security Carrera Cup practice sessions.

Hill finished ninth in the two sessions, and said that he kept improving steadily throughout the day.

“Like a number of other Carrera Cup rounds this year, Hidden Valley is a circuit where I haven’t raced before, so the first session was all about learning the track as quickly as I could,” Hill said.

“In the second session, I was a lot more confident and I was pushing closer to the limits. My times kept improving, and I was on for my best lap right at the end before the red flag came out.

“It’s a technical circuit, with some tricky corners and undulations, so it took some time to work out the best approach lines.”

Hill said Darwin’s warm conditions will definitely be a factor.

“It’s properly hot here this weekend, and Sunday will be a real test for us, with a couple of races to get through.

“After today’s sessions, I was jumping in a garbage bin with iced water, which was quite refreshing!”

Qualifying for Carrera Cup will be held at 12:30 tomorrow afternoon, followed by Race 1 at 3:05 (times are Central Australian Time).
