Double Round Equals Double the Preparation for Cam Hill

Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia championship leader Cameron Hill has doubled down on the preparation’s ahead of a crucial double round at Bathurst next week.

With rounds four and five being split across the event’s four races, Hill and his family team, CHE Racing have ensured no stone is left unturned as they look to maintain their championship lead. Hill currently leads by 80 points over his nearest rival, but said he and team cannot afford to be complacent.

“We’re in a great position, but we’ve seen how tough the competition in Carrera Cup has been this year so we haven’t been resting on our laurels,” said Hill.

“It’s a big two weeks to finish the year, first the Bathurst event and then a week later we go to The Bend. We’ve prepared extra-thoroughly, because a bad race at Bathurst will hurt more than any other this year. With two races per round, the points are weighted more heavily for each race so you can’t afford a DNF.”

“We’ve made sure we have all the necessary human resources on deck, and we’ve put all brand new components in the car even if some parts weren’t due to be replaced.”

“Qualifying is going to be frantic; our two fastest laps will set the grids for races one and race three. Ensuring we set two good laps is going to be a challenge during the 20-minute session.

Hill has been busy in recent weeks, as his duties as CHE Racing team manager have taken him to multiple events in quick succession, including Formula Ford rounds, the Challenge Bathurst event and his guest appearance in the Toyota 86 Series. This weekend, he is overseeing CHE Racing’s campaign in the final round of the Australian Formula Ford Championship at Phillip Island.

“I’ve done everything I can to manage my energy, it’s cool to be back in the swing after the stoppage we had mid-year,” Hill said.

“I even got one of our mechanics to sit out the Phillip Island round so he could drive the transporter to Bathurst instead of me. I’ve been getting to bed early and making sure I don’t burn the candle at both ends.

“Our car has been strong at Bathurst every time we’ve raced there, so hopefully we hit the ground running.”

Rounds four and five of Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup will be contested across December 1-5 as part of the support category line-up for the Bathurst 1000. Sessions will be broadcast live all week on Fox Sports and from Friday, Channel 7 will host live free to air coverage.
