Second Place as Hill Continues to Extend Points Lead

CHE Racing driver Cameron Hill has continued his consistent Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Championship run in race one today to extend his points lead.

The category hit the track twice today, the first of which being a 20 minute hit out for Qualifying. Hill was fast all session and has just gone to second place before nosing his car into the tyre wall at turn one. The session was red flagged and Hill was granted a second place start for the opening race, drivers do not lose their fastest lap for triggering a red flag in Carrera Cup.

The car was turned around by the CHE crew and was ready to hit the track for race one at 3:45pm local time. Hill fell to third early on and settled in for what was scheduled to be an 11 lap race. Due to a delay to the start courtesy of a crash in the previous session on track, the race was reduced to seven laps in order to meet the time certain requirements. Hill was not threatened in his position all race and was rewarded for his patience when the second place car at the time hit the wall and then ran wide at the chase on the last lap, giving Hill the second step on the podium.

“We had a look at the data after that incident in qualifying and there was barely anything in it, I came in maybe four kilometres to quick and slightly off line, passing another car, and off it went,” said Hill.

“Massive credit to the team for fixing it up and ensuring it was 100 percent for the race. The car was perfect when I hopped back in, so they really did a brilliant job.”

“I bogged it a bit on the start, but I managed to hang on around the outside. I let Love go because he was really quick and on a charge. Unfortunately he had a bit of an incident with the wall, and we got back past.”

“Second is great for the points battle, we’ve pulled it out a bit further. Good start to the week but still three races and a long way to go,” concluded Hill.

Race two of the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup will take place tomorrow at 2:45pm, before races thee and four on Saturday and Sunday which will form round five.
