For the second successive year, the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup series has been disrupted by COVID-19 induced cancellations, but points leader Cameron Hill is in a positive mindset should the season get restarted.

This season, Hill has hit a purple patch, winning six consecutive races and opening up a 160-point lead over his rivals following the most recent round at Townsville in July, before the current COVID outbreaks forced organisers to reshuffle the schedule.

Initially, Carrera Cup was slated to visit Perth however that round has been cancelled and replaced on an updated calendar.

The category is now set to visit Winton Raceway on the first weekend of October, before venturing to Phillip Island from October 22-24. The Bathurst 1000 will host the next round of the season from November 4-7 ahead of the Sydney Super Night on November 19-21. The Gold Coast 500 retains its slot as the season decider on December 3-5.

“Our next race event is now scheduled at Winton in October and it was a good call to push the events back to later in the year because obviously, we wouldn’t be able to race right now anyway,” Hill said.

“The issue is that borders between states are closed, meaning competitors have to either quarantine to get to an event, or quarantine when they return home. We’re looking at options to ensure we can make it to each round, regardless of what occurs in the ACT where we are based, even if that means we have to temporarily relocate to a different state.

“We’re very thankful for the efforts of the Carrera Cup administration in doing everything they can to allow us to go racing again as soon as practically possible. It’s not so bad, we are already working hard at locking in all of my and the team’s 2022 plans. We aren’t bored by any means!”

The ACT was recently plunged into lockdown until at least September 2, the same as Melbourne. The lockdown came after a lengthy COVID-free period for the nation’s capital, highlighting the rapidly changing nature of the current situation.

The Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup session is scheduled to resume on October 1-3 at Winton Raceway.
