Cameron Hill has climbed to fourth place in the 2022 Dunlop Super2 Series standings after scoring his maiden race podium and overall round result in his maiden trek to Wanneroo Raceway in Perth.

The #111 Supaglass Industries Triple Eight Race Engineering Holden VF Commodore was on the pace all weekend. Practice resulted in Hill scoring second in each session before qualifying third for the opening race into the night, just 0.208s off scoring pole position.

After a slow start, Hill hit his stride during the early portion of the race and avoided plenty of drama to progress to second. A late race safety car restart provided an opportunity for Hill at victory, but he settled for second and his maiden Super2 race podium.

Hill continued his strong form to qualify third again lowering his time to a 55.282s, some half a second faster in the cool morning conditions.

Chaos ensued at the start of Race 2 in the mid-pack, but Hill was well clear, although he dropped position to Triple Eight Race Engineering team-mate Declan Fraser.

Remaining in fourth for the duration of the race, Hill still secured third for the round and elevated him three positions in the standings to sit fourth just 18-points behind MW Motorsport’s Tyler Everingham.

The result provides strong momentum for Hill heading to Townsville on July 9-10, a venue he took victory at in Porsche Carrera Cup Australia last year.

“I’m stoked to be on the podium, P3 overall, so it has been a good weekend” said Hill.

“I finished P4 in Sunday's race, I was a little tardy of the start line again so that’s for me to work on. Our qualifying and race pace is really, really strong, so I’m really keen to get up to Townsville and give it a big crack there.

“It’s been great to have been doing a lot of racing recently, with the Bathurst 6 Hour win and I feel like I’m in a really good place with my driving. Hopefully, come the end of the year it will put me in good stead to get some potential co-drives or main game opportunities next year.”
