Focus remains on Super2 title amidst co-driver discussion

It’s been more than two months since Cameron Hill contested a round of Dunlop Super2, but he returns to the wheel of his #111 Supaglass Industries Triple Eight Race Engineering Holden Commodore at Townsville this weekend.

Hill has impressed in his rookie season of Dunlop Super2 and is fourth in the standings entering Townsville, which has caught the attention of Supercars team owners throughout pit lane leading to links to potential co-drive opportunities.

The focus remains on Dunlop Super2 as he aims to score his maiden race victory after just falling short in Perth.

Based on his previous form at the venue, Hill is quietly confident after scoring a race victory and finishing equal first for the round in his title winning assault on Porsche Carrera Cup Australia.

A unique circuit in terms of its mixture of street and permanent elements, Townsville is one of Hill’s favourites and he believes it provides the perfect opportunity to close in on the title leaders.

Despite a two month hiatus from Dunlop Super2 competition, Hill has completed two comprehensive tests at Queensland Raceway in addition to a ride day ensuring he is well prepared for Townsville.

Hill has also welcomed a new partner to his team for the weekend too, with Big Ass Fans coming on board.

Dunlop Super2 will contest two 21 lap races during the weekend.

“Townsville is a track I really enjoy,” said Hill.

“It really rewards a driver who is willing to take the extra risks.

“It’s a really cool track as it’s part-street, part-permanent track if you could call it. There are some fast, flowing corners, there are some pretty gnarly kerbs that you’ve got to hit the right way otherwise they can really bounce you off and obviously there is lots of concrete around to catch you out if a mistake is made.

“It’s a really fun track and a daunting one if you haven’t been, but thankfully for me I’ve raced a couple of times there.

“It is a place where you see a lot of evolution over the weekend. It starts off quite dirty and dusty, then come Sunday it certainly has a lot more rubber down, so it’s another factor you have to take into consideration.

“Last year we had a great round finishing equal first on points and it certainly did a lot for us in terms of my championship win.

“The test days have gone well; we’ve had a lot of seat time. We had a ride day after our test for guests of Triple Eight and we certainly cut a lot of laps. From a seat time perspective, it’s been good just recently, but definitely starved of some race action, so keen to hook back in.

“It’s cool what I’m working towards, I’m hoping I can grab one of these last few co-driver seats that are available for the Bathurst 1000. For sure, a strong weekend will always be beneficial, but my main focus is to get the best results I can and try to put together the Dunlop Super2 championship.

“It’s awesome to have some fans behind me too. Very cool to have Big Ass Fans on the side of my car for Townsville, which is very easy to have a few plays on words. It’s definitely a fun sponsor!”
