Hill arrived in Adelaide targeting an improved qualifying performance as confidence in the pace displayed during races proved strong as demonstrated in the second Gold Coast 600 event.

It has been a maiden season in which Hill has impressed on many occasions particularly in Tasmania where he qualified inside the top 10 and finished a season best of eighth.

Adelaide provided extra track time featuring two practice sessions before qualifying and another before Race 27 on Saturday. Hill reacquainted himself with the Adelaide Street Circuit as it provided new challenges driving the Gen3 Truck Assist Racing Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

Qualifying in 18th, an electrical problem prevented Hill’s Camaro from taking the start in Saturdays race as the Matt Stone Racing crew diagnosed and completed the repair. Although two laps down on the field, Hill was able to still run at a competitive pace and finished 22nd.

Sunday started off with another qualifying session and Hill unfortunately tapped the inside wall at Turn 8 resulting in being sent into the outside concrete resulting in significant damage to the Camaro.

The Matt Stone Racing squad rallied and completed the repairs before Race 28 where Hill was able to display the strong race pace of his Camaro by finishing 17th after running inside the top 10 on multiple occasions during the pit shuffle.

Adelaide rounds out a season of great potential for Hill as he will continue the journey with Matt Stone Racing into the new year having signed a multi-year deal with the squad.

The opening round of the 2024 Repco Supercars Championship is the Thrifty 500 at Mount Panorama, Bathurst on February 23-25.

“We just finished the final weekend of the season here in Adelaide,” said Hill.

“It was a really tough weekend for me.

“The car didn’t start on Saturday on the grid after a decent qualifying and that meant by the time the team had it running a few laps down, so it was a long day.

“I really wanted to make up for it on Sunday and unfortunately I had a really big accident in qualifying. I really didn’t think I was going to be racing, I thought the car was too damaged, but incredibly the team got stuck in and put in an amazing effort to get it fixed for the final race of the year.

“Not only did we get it fixed, but we moved from last to 17th. To move up eight spots was amazing and a nice way to finish.

“It was obviously a tough weekend, but an amazing year and I’m really looking forward to getting back into it.”
