Taking fundraising to new heights in Canberra

I've been lucky enough over the years to be involved in a number of charity and fundraising events. I love offering a hand to worthy causes, especially those in and around Canberra.

But never did I think that I would accept an invitation to throw myself across the Brindabella Business Park at Canberra Airport ...

And assuming I can raise over $5000, that's exactly what I'll be doing on October 17 as part of the Big Wig Zip Line Challenge, supporting the Canberra Hospital Foundation.

I have no problem driving my Supercar at close to 300km/h, but heights have never really been a strong suit of mine. I much prefer activities on the ground.

However, this is for a great cause, and I'm willing to put myself out of my comfort zone – but only if you are willing to help.

And this charity, in particular, is more than just a fundraiser.

In 2022, my wife Emily’s beloved brother Christopher was diagnosed with cancer. Their family spent his final weeks together at CHF’s Clare Holland House, where they received comfort and support during an incredibly difficult time.

I've seen first-hand how important CHF's contributions to the community are, and this will be my small way to give back and raise awareness.

The Big Wig Zip Line Challenge invites Canberra’s boldest leaders to take part in a one-of-a-kind zipline event across Town Square at Brindabella Business Park, part of the Canberra Airport precinct.

Donations raised go to the Canberra Hospital Foundation that allows them to funnel vital funds towards specialised equipment, refurbishments, therapeutic programs, research and comfort items for patients and their loved ones.

These funds benefit all walks of life in Canberra, so I could not let my mild fear of heights get in the way of such a great cause.

You could also decide not to donate, which would be a relief for me, but I know how valuable this fundraising event is for the Canberra Hospital Foundation ... Forget me, we can all make a difference on this one.

And of course, before that all happens, we head to Mount Panorama next week for the Repco Bathurst 1000.

It's a huge event. It's Australia's Great Race, and we are really looking forward to it. We showed at the first endurance race at The Bend, and for most parts of this year, that we have the speed to contend for a strong result.
