We’re all done with the Sandown 500, and while we had great success the last time we were in Melbourne, this weekend was below par for results!
We started out with great pace on Friday with top 10 times in both of the day’s practice sessions, however unfortunately we missed the mark on Saturday as our super soft tyres struggles continued, qualifying 13th and finishing two places lower at the end of the race.
Sunday morning, we were feeling good to be on our preferred tyre compound again, plus some changes to our set up. We had a strong qualifying performance where we progressed through to the Top 10 shootout. There, we faced extremely challenging weather conditions but still managed to put the #4 Chev Camaro on the third row with 6th overall.
When it came to the race, we had a brilliant start off the line and gained a position straight away but my afternoon took a turn for the worse as contact with Ryan Wood saw our wheels interlocked, ripping the left-front tyre off and damaging the steering badly, as well as spitting me into the fence.
We lost 10 or so laps while we fixed the damage, but once we did get back out, we saw how fast we actually were and we were genuinely one of the quickest cars on track – setting the fastest lap on multiple occasions.
Although it wasn't ideal and I feel it was a missed opportunity for a great result, I’m proud of the team for the jump from Saturday to Sunday and giving me a car that felt mega to drive.
A massive thank you to everyone for the continued support, and I’m looking forward to Adelaide where I plan to give it a red hot go.
