BMA partners with MSR for Townsville Supercars

Matt Stone Racing is pleased to announce a new partnership with BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) on Cameron Hill's #4 Chevrolet Camaro for the Townsville Supercars Championship round next weekend.

BMA is supporting Hill for the popular North Queensland street race, with Hill's race car to feature BMA logos and Safety Starts with Me branding.

BMA – a 50:50 joint venture between BHP and Mitsubishi Development – is Australia’s largest producer and supplier of seaborne steel making coal. BMA operates five mines in the Bowen Basin and the Hay Point Coal Terminal near Mackay.

Safety Starts with Me is BMA’s safety program, designed to strengthen and further embed safety as a core value across its operations.

As part of the Matt Stone Racing partnership, BMA is giving team members the chance to win an opportunity to join the MSR team and become part of their crew at the Townsville 500, Ipswich Super 440 and Gold Coast 500.

Matt Stone and Cameron Hill recently visited BMA’s Peak Down mine in Queensland to speak with senior leaders, sharing insights into the MSR team safety culture, working safely under pressure and recovering from setbacks. During the visit they also toured the mine and inspected its workshops.

Hill currently sits ninth in the Repco Supercars Championship, and with just two rounds of the Repco Sprint Cup remaining, there is sure to be plenty of attention on his BMA Camaro as the drivers fight to be inside the top 10.

Only drivers inside the top 10 will be eligible to fight for the sport's ultimate prize – the Repco Supercars Championship.

The NTI Townsville 500 will be held on July 11-13, featuring a 100km sprint race on Friday, followed by two 200km races on Saturday and Sunday.

"Our new partnership with the BHP Mitsubishi Alliance is one of the most exciting in our team's history, and we're really looking forward to introducing a company like them into the sport for its first taste," said Stone.

"Cam and I recently met with many of BMA's staff at Peak Downs Mine (Queensland) and we were thrilled to see their knowledge and support of Supercars and sport in general.

"It will be really cool to have some of their team join us at the coal face of our racing program too, immersing them in our weekend competition, giving the winner the ultimate insight into how a Supercars team goes about its business.

"And we know that this is not only a great event to be part of, but it comes at a crucial time for Cam Hill and the #4 Camaro. We are right in the fight for a place in the top 10, so we know there'll be lots of interest in the 'Safety Starts with Me' entry."
