Cam Hill remains positive for finals despite tough Townsville

That’s another round of the 2025 Supercars season complete, with the NTI Townsville 500 now in the books.

There were plenty of positives to take away from the weekend, but overall it turned out to be a frustrating one – especially in Sunday’s race, where we finished 24th due to an extremely unfortunate issue on the #4 Matt Stone Racing Camaro.

Things kicked off with the rare chance to race on a Friday afternoon, and although it was a shorter race, it was a physical one with plenty of bumping and jostling for position amongst the field. Despite that, we had a strong car and managed to finish two spots higher than where we started with 14th.

Saturday was just as tough. After qualifying 12th, we were making good progress and running just outside the top 10 when I got turned around midway through the race. Thankfully, we had good race pace and a solid strategy, which helped us recover well. Despite receiving a penalty for an unsafe release, we fought back to finish 12th.

In Sunday’s final race, we were on for a strong result. After starting 12th again, we worked our way into the top 10 and were looking good for a P8 finish – until disaster struck. Somehow, we picked up a random bolt on track that got lodged in the brake caliper and tore it up. That led to a brake pad failure and forced us back to the pits.

The crew did an incredible job getting the car repaired, and seven laps later I was back out on track to bring it home and collect whatever points we could.

While it was a disappointing way to end the weekend, we’re just outside the top 10 in the championship, and now shift our focus to how we bounce back at Queensland Raceway and prepare for the enduros with Cam McLeod.

A big thanks to BMA, Supaglass, Matt Stone Racing, and all our supporters.

See you in Ipswich!
