Cameron Hill completes rookie test day at The Bend

Truck Assist Racing was in action at The Bend Motorsport Park in South Australia for a Rookie Test Day with Cameron Hill.

The Yatala-based squad made the trek to Tailem Bend with the #35 Camaro, with Hill joined by seasoned team-mate Jack Le Brocq.

Hill said that the day was useful for a number of reasons.

“It was good to get to Tailem Bend and run on a fast, open circuit for the first time. We got a bit of a read on what the car was going to be like through corners at a higher speed and we tried a few different set up configurations,” said Hill.

“Throughout the day, we also compared different tyre compounds from hards to softs and looked at how the car would respond on those different tyres at the Grand Prix.

“The good thing is the balance was pretty consistent, so we were happy with that.”

The only hiccup for the day was when the team experienced a power steering pump failure approximately three quarters of the way through proceedings, which limited the track time.

Despite that, Hill was able to focus on practice starts and other items for the remainder of the day.

“After we had our power steering drama, for the rest of the day we focussed on race starts and coming in and out of the box, because that was something that was pretty new to me at Newcastle,” he said.

“I definitely feel like we made progress on both of those things and I’m feeling more comfortable ahead of the Australian Grand Prix.”

The team will now prepare for the Beaurepaires Melbourne SuperSprint as part of the Australian Grand Prix from March 30 - April 2.
